Embassy Theatre / ABC Theatre

One and the same venue. Was the Embassy from 1937 to 1965 when it was sold to the ABC organization and became known initially as the “ABC Embassy” and thereafter the “ABC” until closure in 1989. Situated on Broadway at the junction with Cattle Market Road, the building houses a pub today as it has done since being “reborn” in 1996.

The Embassy played host to most of the top 1960s acts with the pick being The Beatles in 1962 and again in 1963. The ABC hosted 1970s giants Genesis and Roxy Music amongst others.

You can check out some wonderful old 1960 footage of the Embassy Theatre HERE.
